German V. Dziebel

I obtained a B.A. and an M.A. in History from St. Petersburg State University, Russia, in 1992-1993. I worked as a researcher at the Russian Ethnographic Museum (REM) from 1993 to 1996. In 1995 and 1996, under the auspices of the Historico-Eco-Cultural Association “Povolzhye,” I conducted a series of ethnographic expeditions to the Mordvinians of the Samara Province in Russia. I received an M.A. in Sociology from Central European University (Warsaw, Poland) in 1997 and an M.A. in Anthropology from Stanford University in 1998. I defended my Ph.D. in History at the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography “Kunstkamera” of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg in 1997. I received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Stanford University in January 2006. In 1999-2001, with financial support from the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, I conducted extensive field research in East and West Europe among European reenactors of Native American cultures. Originally supported by the Bernard Osher Foundation, I was on a Hoover Institution team researching Radio Liberty and Radio Free Europe (RFE/RL) between 2003 and 2006. Between September 2006 and June 2008 I was Senior Anthropologist at Crispin Porter + Bogusky. In June 2008 I moved to Boston to take a position of Associate Planning Director at Arnold. From November 2009, I am Vice President of Planning at Hill Holliday, Boston. I have also been Anthropology Advisor for the Great Russian Encyclopedia since January 2007.
